For this week's assignment I've picked D.J. Tanner from Full House, a show I've loved growing up and even today.  D.J.'s dad, Danny Tanner is a recent widow in the first season. After the death of his wife, Danny needs more help around the house with his three young daughters. Danny recruits his brother-in-law, Jesse Katsopolis and his best friend, Joey Gladstone to move in a help him provide a stable home for his girls. The girls adjust to having three men in the house, which is basically like having three dads in the house.

Throughout the 8 seasons, we see all of the characters grow, especially the three girls. D.J. is the eldest of the 3 girls, Stephanie is the middle child and Michelle is the baby of the family. We first meet D.J. at age 10. D.J. is stubborn, often learning the hard way from life's lessons because she chose to not listen to her dad's advice.

Donna-Jo attended Frasier Street Elementary, Van Atta Junior High and Bayview High School. D.J. is a straight A student, always looking to succeed in the classroom. She can be described as "the perfect student". The socioeconomic status of the Tanner family is middle/upper working class. The family lives in San Fransisco and Danny works as a television broadcaster for a morning show. Jesse and Joey also work throughout the show as well.

I don't recall ever seeing an episode of D.J. at school but many times the audience sees D.J. mentoring her younger sisters about the importance of excelling in school, doing their homework and trying their best. D.J. likes to be a role model to both her sisters (most of the time). I would consider D.J. to be a more analytical leaner, she thinks more in the concrete aspect of things. D.J. would excel with checklist tasks and structure. For D.J. the best teaching methods would include a pace-setting activity or a step-by-step agenda. With my limited technology exposure I believe that Google Classroom would be a great tool to let D.J. see what she is being asked to do and to see what lies ahead, this would also provide great organization for D.J., something she craves.

D.J. has been raised in a strong family bond. Her dad and her uncles are very involved in her life. She has grown up being read to and being tucked in every night. D.J. matures over the seasons and at the very last season, it's clear that D.J. is ready for college.

Here's a video of D.J. comforting her little sister, Stephanie, about he first day of school. This clip shows D.J.'s sensitive heart and caring attitude.

  1. Alexandria,

Glad to see someone else loved this show as much as I did! I did D.J. Tanner as well, how funny! I really liked all the background details that you gave. I thought you set the stage and analyzed D.J. very well!

  2. Great analysis! She is a popular one to analyze. :)

You might try open-ended, learner based questions for DJ, to let her really think about topics creatively and answer. You might have to encourage her at first because she is a perfectionist with high anxiety to have the 'right' answer. Good job!
